Statistical Cosideration of Causalgia in 19 Cases



Abstract
During the years Aug. 1965 to July 1968 at the 3rd. Army Hospital 19 cases were treated for causalgia. A clinical analysis was done and the results obtained as follows;
1. Causalgia occurred in the 19 cases (7.6%) of peripheral nerve injury in 284 cases.
2. The causes of causalgia were gun shot injuries in 9 cases (47.4%) explosive in 6 cases (31.6%) and traffic accident in 4 cases (21%).
3. The peripheral nerve injured site was the upper limbs in 8 cases and lower limbs in 11 cases.
4. The most common injured peripheral nerve was median nerve (15.8%) in the upper limbs and sciatic nerve (26.3%) in lower limbs.
5. The most frequent complaints were burning pain and tropic changes.
6. Several methods of causalgia treatment were used as follows; satellite ganglionectomy in 4 cases, upper thorcic sympathectomy in 4 cases, lumbar sympathectomy in 8 cases, cordotomy in 3 cases, and all of our patients discharged in good condition.
